Greetings all,
So I went gold, and am starting my wife on the silent converter. I am running the file through my laptop via windows media center, I have visualizations turned on. The visuals (graph) is not a true meter, I understand this; however it seems to be the only way I can tell a file is playing.
After reading almost every post on the forum, I see there are “squeaks” when playing the files loud. I’m not hearing anything. I read a post
saying try the rain files for a volume baseline. Are the rain and silent files recorded at the same levels? I have the laptop volume at max, should I
presume that since I see the visual graph moving (same action when playing music) the message is being delivered?
After reading the forum I’m very happy with such a helpful and friendly group.
Thanks for any advice, be well

Welcome and best wishes for good progress.
As regards volume, I’m not the guy to ask on this one. My girl has serious hearing issues so I run mine at full volume all the time. Seems to be working though. I do recall that this issue has been addressed in the past, but I’m sure the folks that actually know better will be glad to chime in again anyway!
Keep us in the loop!

07/05/2013 at 8:04 pmThanks MSS! I/we are in the wait and see mode.. Funny she learns behavior mods and I learn more patience. lol, What ever happened
to good ol’ fashion instant gratification??
07/05/2013 at 9:18 pmI wish. Sometimes there is a real ebb and flow, to complicate things further.
I had incredible results in my first 30 days, when things just instantly worked, and were going so well…. and now, 110 days in… we’re worse off than ever, and trying to get back on track.
This can be a very difficult process, but we all wish you the best, and are here to help. Good luck!
07/05/2013 at 11:44 pmI think it’s best to just put it on full volume. Some of the files, you may not hear anything. They’re just at a lower amplification, but they’re on. Other trainer’s files are louder and squeaking can be heard. If you feel comfortable, you should start a journal to track your progress. It’ll help you to see what works for you and could help others in adjusting their playlists.
07/06/2013 at 12:51 amThanks everyone! Heres a tech question probably for Trainer. Would the files being played via laptop (or any device really) be picked up by an external Db meter?

If the output device, mic, and the meter are all responsive to high sonic and ultrasonic frequencies (~15 khz – 25 kHz), then you should be able to detect when there is content in the file being played.
Max volume has the potential to cause damage – to the playback device or someone’s hearing – regardless of whether the frequencies involved are consciously detectible.

I can’t really explain it myself when it comes to ultrasonic frequencies I just use what I learn and go with it. Adding some common sense goes a long way.
